Description Learn how our ancestors survived in the wilderness, with bushcraft expert Patrick from Backwoods Survival School. Various displays and workshops will run throughout the day ranging from firelighting (using bow drill and hand drill), how to prepare and cook fish in the wilderness, and ancient crafts such as making willow whistles.
How to Prepare and cook fish in the wilderness
Come and discover how to prepare and cook fish
with only basic materials.
You will learn how to prepare fish for cooking, and learn how to
cook it using wilderness techniques.
Fire lighting
This workshop is a basic beginners level course in firelighting. It will cover the uses
of fire, the best and most useful firelighting materials,
where to site a fire, and how to carefully and safely
light and manage a fire. This course aims to teach that
fires can be fun and useful but only when approached
in a safe and respectful manner; come and learn how!
Nature's Larder
Come and join us on a short easy walk around
a small woodland area looking at some of the plants and trees
within our local environment. You will learn how to identify
some common plants and trees, learn about their folklore, and
their uses for food, medicine and cordage.
Age Group
Suitable for any age as a spectator, age 7+ to participate.
What to bring
No materials required, but please dress in appropriate outdoor
clothing.
