Description For the first time at Get Active Loch Lomond, we have organised the RYA, who are the National Governing body for sailing in the UK, to come to Loch Lomond to offer 'come and try' sailing sessions for juniors. A fun introduction to dinghy sailing designed especially for 8-14 year olds.
Not to be missed!
Age Group
Suitable for age 8-14. As the boats are designed for children, adults cannot participate in this activity. Adults must register children
of any age by completing a booking/medical form on the
day, and dropping the children off at activity. The adult will be expected to remain nearby for the duration of the session.
What to bring
Wear warm clothing, and bring a complete change of clothing
for each participant including spare shoes and a towel. If there are any asthmatics in your
party, please remember to bring inhalers. Bring sunscreen, snacks and a drink. Waterproofs are provided in case of rain.
Special Needs
Although dinghy sailing can be suitable for wheelchair users, the boats being used at the festival are unsuitable. If you are a wheelchair user and would like to get involved in sailing, please call Angie at the RYA on 0131 317 7388 to find out your nearest club. For other special needs on the weekend of the festival, please also call Angie at the RYA for advice
How to book
Limited places - booking advised.
Where to register
Participants should register either at the Festival information point one hour before the session is due to start (to allow enough time to get to the sailing venue in Balloch Castle Country Park), or directly with the sailing instructor at Balloch Castle Country Park slipway 15 minutes before the session is due to start. A booking/medical form must be completed, this form must be completed by an adult,
and should be handed to the sailing instructor before the session
starts. Children should be ‘dropped off’
at the activity by an adult, and the adult will be expected to wait nearby for the duration of the session..
Where to meet for the activity
Meet at the Slipway in Balloch Castle Country Park. Plan on arriving at the slipway at least 15 minutes before the session is due to start to get kitted out with buoyancy aid and waterproofs. There are three ways to get there!
1. Take the Balloch Park express boat from Loch Lomond Shores to Balloch Park slipway (5 minute boat ride) - if you choose to take the Balloch Park boat please leave plenty of time between registering at the festival information point and your session in case the boat is busy.
2. Walk to Balloch Park slipway from Loch Lomond Shores (approximately half an hour walk)
3. Drive to Balloch Castle Country Park, park in the main car park and walk down the hill (either the grassy slope or the path) to the slipway at the Loch-side. The slipway can be seen from the castle.
